Shape Hunt Activity

Shapes are everywhere, even at home!

Encourage your children to look for different shapes around the house. It is good for older children to recognize shapes in objects, not just in flashcards. Try introducing 3D shapes such as cylinder, pyramid, sphere, cone, etc.

For your little ones, you can try introducing the basic shapes while listening or singing the song "Shapes are Everywhere" by Bounce Patrol feat. Debbie Doo found on Youtube.

You can give the children clues when they find it a bit hard to find one. Use prepositions where the shapes are hiding or describe what the object is (I found it really hard to find triangle though). Talk about the objects they found and ask why they think it is that shape.

In this activity the children will learn:

- shape recognition and identification

- sorting and matching

- mathematical language (name of new shapes)

- how math connects to their world

- descriptive language and prepositions (describing the attributes of the shapes and their location)

Good luck finding the hidden shapes and enjoy!

Paalam!
